A Trip to Washington DC

Michael went to Washington DC for work this week.  I decided to make a short vacation out of it by meeting him on Wednesday and us staying through the weekend.  While I didn't do much during the day, it was still nice being able to relax and watch tv all day in the hotel room.  Michael and I did go out on the evenings and then on the weekend.  Here are some of the things we did and saw:

The Pentagon Memorial:

It's the capitol building, where nothing gets done.

The White House. There were a bunch of SUVs lined up so we thought maybe someone important was about to leave, but we never saw anyone.

The Washington Monument

A close up of those SUVs. Could it be the President coming out???

Hanging out in front of the White House.

A little overprotective, don't you think?

Maybe it really is someone important about to leave?

First Family Baseball Game

We ended Michael's birthday by going to the Cardinals game.  This is also the first time Emma has been to a Cardinals game, but you better believe with Michael being her dad, this won't be the last game she goes to.  I see us going to many games in the future!

You never know what the weather will be like when you purchase the tickets and its still kind of a guess until game time, especially as the weather changes so frequently in St. Louis.  For this game, the temperature still remained very high, even at the start of an evening game.  We were hoping that by picking an evening game, the temperatures would be cooling down, but they certainly did not tonight.  At least, we didn't have rain.  And since we did have the very last row in the stadium, we were able to get a breeze which helped keep us cool.

I think Emma did really well for her first Cardinals game.  She handled the heat pretty good, which also means that she might do well on a family vacation to a beach!  Its hard for us to sit still throughout the entire game so I can only imagine what its like for a one year old.  Hopefully we will be able to experience more Cardinal games (in person) with her this year.  But if not in person, you better believe we will be watching all of the Cardinal games from the comfort of our house!  Go Cards!

Emma was excited that there was a pole for her to play with right at our seat; however, Michael was not thrilled that the pole went right between his legs.

Happy girl, even though it was still so hot!

Time to get hydrated.

Emma met a friend; she is so much like her Grandpa (meeting people all over the place).

It's getting a little late; time to get hydrated with milk.

Happy Birthday Michael!  We love you!

The Twins Surprise Party

We quickly threw together a surprise 60th birthday party for my dad and his twin brother.  We had a plan to get my dad out of my parent's house to help us at our house with a few projects.  Uncle Ron was told that we were going to have a few family members over to play cards.  We weren't there when Uncle Ron walked in, but we quickly rushed over to my parent's house to get there before my dad arrived.  Apparently, both were very surprised!

Also, since we had most of my dad's family at my parent's house, Michael and I wanted to share some news with them.  As the party was going on, I had an outfit change with Emma.  She wore her new shirt: an owl that had a message which read "guess hooo has a secret...Emma!  I'm going to be a big sister!"  At first, some people didn't realize what it was saying and then it hit them when my dad was explaining what it said on the shirt.  What a great way to end the party!
