Weird Experience

Last night Emma was on the move quite a bit. I first noticed her moving while I was taking a bath. The water kept moving around in the bath tub and I was sitting perfectly still. After a freaked out a little bit, I noticed I could see my stomach moving. Then it was really cool to see her perfecting her gymnastic routines. I had Michael watch my stomach to see her move. Of course, every time he wasn’t watching she would move and the times he was watching he never saw anything. Finally he saw her move and just to prove it really was her, I placed the tv remote on my stomach so he could see that move. He also said ‘Emma, if you hear Daddy, kick twice’ and she did; it was a pretty cool experience.

While at work today I had three people come up to me and feel my belly. It was a little weird at first, but some people are just really into pregnant women or pregnancy in general. The first one that touched my belly was a guy who cleans the therapy gym. He was passing by and said “oh look at the little belly” then continued to touch my belly. The next one was a CNA who just came up to me and said “wow look at how big you have gotten over the last couple weeks” as she was unzipping my jacket to feel my stomach. The last one was a nurse who said “I didn’t know you were pregnant” as she touched my belly and that I looked good for being so far along. I really don’t mind if people are touching my belly, but I think it would be a little different if it were complete strangers. At least, I know of these people that I work with.

Baby Emma Update

Michael and I were curious to see how the baby was doing since our last doctor’s appointment, but I was a little afraid that Michael wasn’t going to make it due to a communication error on his part. Even though I called the doctor’s office to make sure the doctor was on schedule, I still had to wait about 20 minutes. That gave Michael time to quickly get to the doctor’s office.

While there we had a few questions, all of which got answered. I didn’t really think I had gained much weight, but to my surprise I had. Michael said he didn't know where I was putting the weight because I looked the same. I don't know if he was just being nice because I'm pregnant or what. I’m not concerned about gaining the weight, but I was shocked I gained that much. Since I became pregnant, I have gained 13 pounds, with this last month gaining 7 pounds! That’s crazy, but I know essential for the baby.

We listened to your heart beat again; it was 150 beats per minute. The doctor said it was perfectly normal. She also took my belly measurement, which was 25 cm; something else that was perfectly on tract and normal.

We made the remaining doctor’s appointments. We are to the point where the appointments will be every other week and then every week. We have seven more doctor’s appointments and then you will be here! We are getting closer by the days till we meet and we look forward to the day you are in our arms!

Hotel Room

Michael and I had booked a hotel room at the Ameristar casino a couple weeks ago for tonight and we since didn’t call to cancel within 24 hours, we had to go. When we checked in, conveniently the only room left was a handicapped room. There were so many bars in the bathroom, it kind of freaked me out. We had received a coupon for a free hotel room and a free $15 to spend at the casino. We brought with us just $50 and ended up losing it all. I had noticed online that if you earn 15 points you could get a free buffet or $10 off another restaurant in the casino. So out of our spending money we were able to get two “free” meals and then some.

At the restaurant, I had ordered a cheeseburger (well done) with a salad (blue cheese dressing). The food took forever to come out and my order was wrong. I had honey mustard salad dressing and a hamburger, no cheese! Also, I had noticed the hamburger looked a little pink, but I thought it was the lighting so I didn’t say anything. Well I only took a few bites out of the hamburger and took the rest up to our room.

As soon as we got into our room, Michael said it’s a good thing I didn’t see the hamburger that it was at best medium rare cooked. My stomach had been hurting the whole way to the room and I wonder if it could have been from the food. I called to complain and the receptionist said she took a message and would pass it on. When Michael went to check out, he complained some more and ended up getting two more meals at the restaurant. Not a bad deal after all, just an upset stomach.

Also tonight, Michael was able to feel baby Emma kick and it was a legitimate kick. Most of the time, I have Michael feel my belly and I will push my stomach out, but this time he put his hand on my belly and she kicked him good. And it kept going for a little bit. He was so excited that he sent a text message to his friends telling them that he felt his baby kick. It was an exciting time because now he can connect with the baby by either feeling her or talking to her. Just a few more months and she will be here!

Snow Day!

Second snow day in the past two weeks! Michael and I enjoyed the day together since we had gotten about a foot of snow over the night into today. It just wasn’t safe to drive into work and I was going to leave early for my doctor’s appointment. As it turned out, my doctor’s office closed early due to the weather.

Look at all that snow!

Michael went to help the trash man get out of our street.

This crazy girl loved sitting in the snow! The girls could have spent all day outside playing, but I thought they were going to freeze.

Baby It's Cold Inside

Our sleeping arrangements from over the night.

I woke up early Saturday morning to a weird smell in our bedroom. It smelt like something was burning like when you turn on the heat for the first time during the winter. We checked all over the house just to make sure there wasn't a fire or anything and tried going back to bed. I couldn't fall asleep in the bed because I kept smelling it. We also noticed that our heat wasn't working as well as it had been over the past.

When we returned from the birthday celebration last night, we had NO HEAT! It was 63 degrees in the house, but it was set on 75 degrees. Michael and I quickly turned on the fireplace to start heating up the house. I grabbed a bunch of bedding and layered up for our cold night ahead. Even though we slept right in front of the fireplace, we were still freezing this morning (not to mention our backs were killing us).

Thankfully, we have a family friend that was able to come over this afternoon to look at the furnace and get the heat back on. We still have to have the furnace fixed, but at least we have heat now. Otherwise, it was going to be another long cold night. Oh what else is going to happen to us and this house!

Isabella's Third Birthday Celebration

Michael and I went over to his brother and sister in law's house with his parents to celebrate our niece's birthday. Grandpa made lasagna, we brought the salad, and Grandma and Grandpa brought the cake. We opened presents, sang happy birthday, made cookies, made cards, and of course played! We had a great time and can't wait for our daughter to meet and be able to play with her cousins!

What a handsome pair!

Isn't it fancy; it's a Fancy Nancy purse book filled with all kinds of neat things.

Chase was just a crawling around.

Oh what a cute niece and handsome nephew we have!

Just getting started...we were taking everyone's orders for what design they wanted.

Third Times A Charm

Michael’s parents came out in the morning to help get the second dresser downstairs and returned to the store. We were hoping that the third times a charm and it was!

Michael talked to the worker at Babies R Us to get a discount for the inconvenience we went through getting this dresser. It might be a couple days till we hear something from the lady, but we are hoping that we get $50 discount.

After they brought it home, the dresser was taken out of the box and thankfully everything was okay. Emma’s nursery is coming together piece by piece. Her closet is filling up quickly with all the clothes we are buying and the gifts we are getting from family members. I can’t wait to start having showers so we get more gifts to put in her room to finalize it.

I’ve been trying to tell the girls that we are going into Emma’s room so they begin to get used to her name. Right now, they just go and sniff around in her room, but I hope they begin to get used to it.

Oh The Possibilities

Also today Michael and I went to check out a daycare. This was much more fun then interviewing a pediatrician. This daycare was called Chesterfield Academy.

Both Michael and I walked about of there and were like "yea this is a place we could send our child". Some things that really caught our attention were the fact that you had to have an employee let you into the facility, when entering the infant room you had to take your shoes off, there was padding and a ton of toys in the infant room (all of which get sanitized every evening), each year had a separate room with their own bathroom and fire exit, there is a huge indoor room to play in if the weather is bad outside, there are opportunities for extra activities (cooking, music, computers), and most importantly were the hours (open a half hour later than most facilities).

There was something that caught Michael’s attention and it was the fact that the staff aren’t required to have a certain educational degree or any degree at all. Yes education is definitely important, but I just felt from the staff and the interaction that we saw, that the children are for sure getting the proper education and attention they need.

Right away, I had a good vibe from the lady that greeted us and gave us a tour of the facility. It is definitely one that is top of my list right now, but I know we have a little bit of time before we need to decide on a facility; however, we may need to get on a waiting list at some facilities so I would like to have our decision made within the next couple months. Oh what an exciting day Michael and I had today!

Search For A Pediatrician

Michael and I were both off today so we decided we would begin our search for a pediatrician for our daughter. I called around to a couple local hospitals and outpatient clinics. I set up an appointment with a pediatrician at the end of the month and to my surprise I had one that was willing to see us today.

I had a couple thoughts about this one before we even met. First of all, this facility had just opened within the last year; however, that doesn’t mean that the pediatrician just began her practice, but I was still a little hesitant about it. Also, I liked the fact that it is literally right down the road so if we absolutely needed to get there in a hurry would be great.

We didn’t have a clue as to what to expect with interviewing a pediatrician so we had a few questions to begin with and we would go from there. Something we both noticed when we walked into the waiting room was the fact that there was no well and sick waiting rooms; they were combined in the same area along with the other doctor’s offices in the suite. When we were waiting for the pediatrician to come into her office, we were looking around to see if we could gather any information from the décor. We noticed that she had two young kids, which was something I liked because then I knew if I was going through something, chances are she had/has gone through something similar. We were a little puzzled by her educational background. There was a diploma from 1997, but during our meeting she said she had been practicing for only four years. We are unsure about the remaining years about what she was doing. Something that Michael didn’t really like and that I didn’t really notice was her forced laugh. Now that he mentioned that, it was kind of awkward when she laughed, but I’m sure it was a little uncomfortable for both of us meeting a stranger.

Overall, it was a good trial run with meeting a pediatrician, but I think we will continue to search for one that suites us. We still have a little bit of time before we absolutely need a pediatrician.

Update On Our Sweet Pea

The past couple days I have been thinking I have felt the baby kicking. I really don’t know what to expect, but when I was driving home yesterday it just felt funny. The best way I could describe it is my stomach was sloshing around with like a gas bubble popping. Then I was at work today and I felt again the feeling like a bubble popping. I’m not sure if that is her kicking or what it is. I keep hearing that when she kicks, I will know what it is and I will wish she would stop.

The baby in the works!

Also today Michael and I went to Babies R Us to meet his mom. Michael and I were going to buy his cousin a baby shower gift and while we were there we might as well look at the girl stuff for our little one. We were looking at the winter clothes that were 40% off. It is hard to guess what size our daughter will be, but we are hoping the sizes we got will be appropriate for her when the winter comes around. We ended up saving a ton of money ($84 to be exact) from coupons and sales.

Some of our bargains:

Michael and I also talked on the way home one night this week about our daughter’s name. I think we have decided on Emma Louise, not only from the initials in my dream, but the family meaning behind it. I can’t wait to meet her!

New Years Eve

This year was a little different than past new years; no drinking for me since we are expecting. Michael and I had Ashley and Jarrod over to our house to play games and celebrate. We started off playing Scattegories and Apples to Apples. We had our count down at midnight and sipped on sparkling peach juice. Then we went back to the games; we played Scene It. Ashley and I should have won, but the guys cheated at the end. I was surprised that we were able to stay awake as late as we did. What a great way to start the new year with friends!

Michael's reaction to the no name brand $2.99 six pack beer from Walgreens; apparently it wasn't that bad.
