Our Parish Picnic

This weekend is our parish picnic and they decided to start things off right…free food for being debt free! We had asked Michael’s parents if they wanted to join us. Michael and I weren’t exactly sure of the time that the free food began, but we knew we wanted to wait for it to get a little cooler.

When we got close to the parish, we realized that it must have began much earlier because there were a ton of people already there. We drove all around the parish, but there was not parking within a reasonable distance so we decided to park at the high school. This was Emma’s first time riding on a school bus. She had the best seat partner, her daddy.

Then once we got to the parish, we had to find the food line. It wasn’t hard to miss because it was so long. We waited in line for about an hour and a half. It was great too because it was all you can eat. Granted, it was hamburgers and hot dogs, but still we loaded up on the free food. We even had some left over that we will eat tomorrow for lunch.

Emma's first picnic; too bad she slept through most of it.

Eating a quick snack with Grandma before the fireworks begin.

Shortly after we got our food, the fireworks began. This was the first year that the parish did fireworks. I thought it was funny that they were going to shoot them off of the gym roof. You know, good idea when all the guests were on the soccer field below. What if one of the fireworks malfunctioned and went towards a person or what if it burned the school down? Luckily the fire department is right across the street and fire fighters were present. When the fireworks began, they were just simply amazing! They shot off to the sound of the music. Emma slept most of the time we were at the picnic. She woke up to watch some of the fireworks, but then fell right back to sleep. I was surprised that the fireworks didn’t scare her, especially being so loud. She is just a great little lady!

"When are these things supposed to begin?"
